Fire Dept Officials: Explosion in Old Los Angeles Subway System Caused by Natural Gas Leak

A subterranean explosion, which shook Los Angeles residents at 5:37am this morning, was caused by a natural gas explosion, according to Los Angeles Fire Department officials.

These officials, who requested to remain anonymous, said an undetected natural gas leak may have gone undetected for weeks or months, slowly filling the long-abandoned tunnels and chambers of the old LA Subway, which closed operation in 1955.

Emergency officials are still investigating the site of the explosion. Thus far, no injuries or deaths have been announced.
